Daily Bet - Rays vs Royals

Written by: Josh Hammer, The Reserve Clause

So last night I decided that no team in the NL Central wants to open up a lead and runaway with the division. Every time a leading team has the opportunity to reclaim 1st place in the division, they choke and continue to fall back within the division. Anyways, lets get back to putting marks in the win column and offer up a winning pick!

MLB Pick for July 22, 2011:

Spread: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5/Kansas City Royals +1.5
Over/Under: 9.5

In tonight's match up the Rays will be sending Wade Davis (7-6 with a 4.25 ERA) to battle with Kansas City's Luke Hochevar (5-8 with a 5.23 ERA). The Rays are on a high after defeating the 14-game winner C.C. Sabathia 2-1. I look for the Rays to carry that success into tonight's ball game and downing the Kansas City Royals. While the Rays still have something to play for (AL East race), the Royals are once again out of contention to make the playoffs. The Royals will be playing for self respect but I don't think that will help them in this series match up with the Rays. I have a sneaky feeling that the Royals are going to give up quite a few runs and provide little run support for Hochevar. Look for the Rays to win this one by covering the spread.

MY PICK: Tampa Bay Rays -1.5 to win
